With the Greyhound Trader online auctions returning with a special Pre-Derby sale, it comes as no surprise that there is plenty to report!
Despite a catalogue full of talent, there was no denying that BALLYMAC WALT was the headline act. A 29.29 Winter Racing Festival over 550y at Shelbourne Park, the June 2021 son of Ballymac Cashout and Ballymac Diva made an impressive £18,600 and has been sold to Nic ‘Antigua’ Jeal.
Joining the kennels of Kevin Hutton alongside the recently acquired Antigua Eagle (formerly Omuircheartaigh), Nic has started to build a powerful Derby team alongside Antigua Hawk and Antigua Forky (formerly Optic Chico) who are also expected to make the trip across from Ireland.
BALLINABOLA UNA was not sold at £13,600 but subsequently snapped up by Newcastle handler Steve Anderson. Another race-winner during the Winter Racing Festival, the Burgess Bucks half-sister to Ballinabola Ed could be one to follow over 6-bend trips.
Another one heading to a Newcastle-based trainer is CLONROOSK SYDNEY, who has been purchased for £7300 by Savva Roberts. Having already tasted success with previous online auction purchase Pape Di Oro, this fresh addition looks an intriguing prospect at 80/1 for the English Greyhound Derby.
Other notable sales include Ballymac Rebel, Good Hope, Itsallabouted and Radical Court who each could take their chances too at Towcester for the Star Sports English Greyhound Derby which is less than 6 weeks away.
Overall, 9 of the 20 greyhounds on offer sold (45%) for a figure over £80,000.
