ABOUT GREYHOUND TRADER
Formed in 2021, Greyhound Trader is a family-run business providing a central platform for people to buy and sell racing greyhounds by offering on-track sales on a 4/5 week basis around the UK as well as monthly online sales via the website. Our aim is to provide customers the best possible value for money when purchasing their next greyhound.
Greyhound Trader was created as we saw a space in the market for a single home for purchasing and selling racing greyhounds. We believe that our wonderful sport must keep up with the ever-evolving technological world and through Greyhound Trader we hope to have a positive impact on the Greyhound Racing industry, just as Goffs and Tattersalls have done in Horse Racing.
We do not intend to provide just for the current greyhound community however, as we want to encourage new people into the sport through ownership opportunities. There has never been an easier way of buying a greyhound than now and through our racecourse and media presence, we hope to be the trigger for new owners.
With over 25 years in the industry we have built up an extensive contact book which means we can help you through the whole process of becoming an owner from discussing what you are looking for, transportation and finding a trainer for you.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
The online sales and track sales are different altogether and provide customers the opportunity to purchase greyhounds in two different ways.
ONLINE – These are monthly online sales which run over 48 hours from Friday 6pm-Sunday 6pm. These greyhounds do not trial anywhere before being auctioned and are offered as seen. The greyhounds found in these auctions can range from young pups, currently racing greyhounds, and even brood bitches. It is your responsibility to contact the seller for any information you require, whilst sellers must agree to the Terms & Conditions that they are being honest in their advertised lot.
TRACK – These are sales held on a single day roughly every 5/6 weeks. At this type of sale, greyhounds are required to trial at the track at where the sale is being held before being entered into the auction later in the day. You are welcome to come along and watch the dogs trial on the day of the sales and you can have the option of bidding directly from the track itself, or online via our online auction provider MartEye.
An online sale consists of a 48 hour auction running from Friday 6pm-Sunday 6pm. There is no limit to how many greyhounds can be entered into each auction and we are happy to accept greyhounds of all ages. Greyhounds listed for auction will start up for £200 but each will have a reserve price, decided on by the seller. Once bidding on a greyhound, you will receive updates if there has been any other bids and you can also set automatic bidding up to an amount of your choice.
ONLINE – Yes, you do need to create an account to bid on any greyhound being auctioned in our online sales. To create an account, please click HERE and follow the instructions.
TRACK – To participate in an online capacity at one of our track sales, you will need to create a MartEye account. Once doing this, you will then be required to make a deposit to be approved as a bidder at one of our sales. This deposit must be done within the 7 days leading up to the sale you wish to participate in.
Yes, you can watch a live stream of all trials via our YouTube channel and then once trials are complete, you will be able to switch to MartEye to watch/participate in the auction. Links for both are found next to the current sale within the Track Sales page.
ONLINE – There is no entry fee required when entering your greyhound into one of our online weekly auctions.
TRACK – The entry fee for entering a greyhound into one of our track sales is £50.
ONLINE – To enter your greyhound into one of our monthly online auctions, please firstly create an account with Greyhound Trader to become registered with us. Then find our Sell page where you will be asked to fill out the required information and agree to the terms & conditions of selling. Entries must be submitted by midnight on the Thursday before the auction starts.
TRACK – To enter your greyhound into one of our track sales, please find an entry form located next to the upcoming sale on our Track Sales page. This form must be filled out and sent to us at least 10 days before the sale you wish to enter in. Alternatively, you can enter your greyhound by emailing us at sales@greyhoundtrader-com.stackstaging.com
ONLINE – If you are to purchase a greyhound via our weekly online sales, there is 0% commission charged in the value of the winning bid. This means you pay exactly what you bid.
TRACK – If you are to purchase a greyhound via from one of our track sales, whether you are at the track or bidding online, you will be charged an additional 5% on the value of the winning bid.
ONLINE – If you are to successfully sell your greyhound via our weekly online sales, you will be charged 6% of the value of the winning bid which includes commission and card processing fees. This will be automatically deducted from the total your dog sold for.
TRACK – If you are to successfully sell your greyhound at one of our on-course sales, you will be charged 5% on the value of the winning bid.
ONLINE – If you are successful in one of our online auctions, it will be your responsibility to ensure the greyhound reaches your intended trainer, unless alternative arrangements are made with the seller. Greyhound Trader have several partner Transporters who can collect your dogs in Ireland or the UK and take it to the requested trainer. The price of transportation from Ireland is approximately £120, whilst anything in the UK could be a minimum of £50. Greyhound Trader will email the winning bidders to ask if they require a transporter and will put you in contact with someone if you do require so.
TRACK – If you are successful in bidding highest for a greyhound at one of our track sales, it will be your responsibility to ensure the greyhound reaches your intended trainer. Greyhound Trader have several transporters in attendance at our track sales who are available to transport your greyhound to the requested location. Greyhound Trader will ring you after making a winning bid and discuss what you would like to do. The price of transportation would usually be a minimum of £50.
There will be a pre-authorisation charge of £100 made to your debit or credit card. This money does not leave your account unless you purchase a greyhound (the £100 will instead be deducted from the total price required to be paid in accordance with the bid made) and the charge will be cancelled within 24 hours after the sale if you do not make a successful bid. This charge is like when a hotel takes a ‘deposit’ from you when you check in.
Bidding in our online auctions works via automatic bidding technology. The auctions all run in £25 increments and you are able to place a single bid, or alternatively set a maximum bid you are prepared to go to. Our system will bid to this set amount against any others bids until your maximum bid is reached. However, if no one else bids against you then the automatic bidding system will keep your lowest possible bid.
Example: £1000 Greyhound – You can set your maximum bid to £1500 and your first bid will be £1000. If someone comes in and sets their limit to £1100, you remain the leading bidder but at £1125 due to the automatic bidding system. If no one bids more, you will win at £1125 but if someone sets their maximum bid to £1600, then you are no longer the highest bidder until a new bid is placed.
