A new addition to the Greyhound Trader online auction for this weekend is a midway thoughts column by our very own James Corden.
Having run countless number of online auctions by now, James is in a position to have a pretty good idea on valuations of greyhounds and also he possesses a good eye for talent from his experiences in Ireland. On the auction James had to say…
“Carrick Keano (pictured) is obviously the star attraction of the weekend deservedly so. Proving himself at AA0 on numerous occasions, I think he would be a great purchase in and around £15,000. Straight away he could be targeted at the €125,000 Boylesports Irish Derby where he certainly wouldn’t be without a chance, or in the UK the Eclipse or the Olympic would look right up his street and I could easily see him going close enough to landing either of those and earning that initial outlay back.”
“Oscar The Grouch is another who could be suitable for someone looking to get straight onto the Open racing scene. He would be an astute addition and if capable of picking him up for £5000 he would be extremely good value having just last month outpaced some serious Irish talent fair and square. This same kennel sold Beaming Panther who is flying for Belinda Green.”
“Ballinabola Jack looks the pick of the young pups to me with the benefit of being Monmore Puppy Derby eligible as a May 2023 whelp. 29.22s is no mean feat at Enniscorthy and to do it at just 15 months old suggests this is a pup of the highest calibre. With a top pedigree to match (half-brother to Ballinabola Ed), it is hard to find a fault in him.”
“My top value pick is without doubt Ferryforth Zara. A March 2023 bitch who ran away with victory on debut by 11.5L in 29.43 at Cork. With a reserve of just over £1000, I find it hard to believe there is better value around anywhere for one still so young.”
“And for those long-term breeding lovers, Unlock Queen stands out of course. Whilst carrying a significant reserve, it could soon become justified with pups on the ground sure to fetch £2000 each by her. Chicken Coop similarly is another one who’s pups will straight away fetch good money on their breeding alone. A bit younger and cheaper, she could be one to take a chance on with minimal risk.”
For those looking to purchase during this weekend’s Greyhound Trader online auction, don’t forget the bidding ends at 6pm on Sunday with those highest bidders getting first crack at the greyhounds who’s reserves aren’t met.
