Continuing on from the success of the recent Doncaster ‘Summer’ Sales, Greyhound Trader is back again with an August instalment of the popular Online Auctions.
With 20 greyhounds set to go under the timer which starts on Friday 6pm and ends Sunday 6pm, there is plenty of star quality on offer including a 66/1 shot for the upcoming Boylesports Irish Greyhound Derby.
There are also some exciting prospects out of proven dams including Unlock Unlock, Coolavanny Pet and Ballymac Petsy.
Read below the short thoughts on each greyhound:
CARRICK KEANO – A June 2022 son of the rising sire Dromana Bucko who has already shown himself to be a top AA0 dog who can compete in all the major competitions and will be expected to go for the upcoming Boylesports Irish Greyhound Derby. Just some of his winning performances to date include 28.32 Clonmel, 28.34 SPK and also 29.72 over 550y at SPK. This greyhound looks destined to land a big one so don’t expect him to come cheap but if its quality you’re after then this is the one.
OSCAR THE GROUCH – A May 2022 son of Burgess Bucks who caught plenty of attention in the recent Irish St Leger over 550y at Limerick having won his 1st round assignment in a quite incredible 29.41 (considerably faster than all of Carmac King, Superfast Gorden, Knockeen Dazzler and Jaytee Craze). His race comments often include RNON, suggesting 550y is the minimum Oscar wants as can be seen with his impressive run last time out coming from last to an unlucky 3rd.
UNLOCK QUEEN – A November 2021 daughter of Unlock Unlock who has produced some big displays over the extended distances in her last 3 outings. Over 575y, she won in 31.06 (AA0 time), over 670y she won in 36.62 (DD0 time) and over 750y at SPK she recorded 42.08 (D0 time) in her first attempt over 6-bends. Not only is she an exciting staying prospect for the UK, but also as a daughter of Unlock Unlock she possesses great potential as a brood for those looking to breed down the line.
BALLYMAC MCGOWAN – A young February 2023 unraced son of Ballymac Kingdom and the great Coolavanny Pet who is responsible for Pestana as well as the Irish Oaks winning Ballymac Beanie. In his most recent trial, McGowan won his trial by a distance en route to clocking an impressive 29.30 at Tralee. At 74lb, McGowan looks an exciting talent for next year and beyond.
WESTSIDE RANGER – An October 2022 son of Dorotas Wildcat who was a debut winner at Cork in the Denis Linehan Solicitors Open Unraced Stake, winning by 4 lengths in a good 28.65. Just 2 weeks before he recorded an even faster 28.55 qualifying trial and despite finding it tough since, he still showed plenty of pace when finishing strongly to record 28.93 in Clonmel at the start of the month.
GLENGAR PEPPA – A September 2022 daughter of Glengar Bale and Glengarbadminton who scored on debut in Limerick in a fast 28.67. A half-sister to the star Glengar Martha, Peppa has since recorded 28.87 at Dundalk and trialled just last Wednesday in 28.98 at Limerick.
BONN – An exciting April 2023 unraced son of Ballymac Cashout who’s most recent qualifying trial was a good 29.00 in Limerick. Out of the same dam as Newinn Port who was a 28.31 scorer at Cork, Bonn is eligible for next years Monmore Puppy Derby.
BALLYMAC BELLA – A May 2023 daughter of Ballymac Wild and Jamaica Joy who qualified unraced at Tralee in a very promising 28.98. She made her debut last Saturday night in the Casey’s Caravan & Camping Park ON1 Stake at Waterford and looked to have the race at her mercy having showed great early pace to lead to the 1st bend. Inexperience and perhaps slight cramping halted a successful debut but a 17.88 trial in Tralee suggests all is well with Bella who is clearly capable of much more.
BALLYMAC MIST – A full-sister to Ballymac Bella who also made her debut just last week in the Casey’s Caravan & Camping Park ON1 Stake in Waterford. Finishing 2nd to the hugely exciting Droopys Maximus, Mist clocked 29.36 but is clearly capable of better on her 29.19 qualifying effort in Tralee. A half-sister to the classic winning Ballymac Marino, Mist could also represent broodbitch potential.
FERRYFORTH ZARA – A young March 2023 daughter of Good Cody who opened her account in style at Cork, winning by over 11 lengths in 29.43. Showing good early zip but also the ability to stay strongly, Zara could be the one to represent best value of all in this weekends auction and there’s no guessing when the improvement might stop.
KILLOUGH BELLA – An unraced May 2023 Droopys Sydney bitch who has won her only trial to date at Clonmel in 30.01. A repeat-mating sister to UK stars Clona Curly and Newinn Deejay, Bella looks not only a promising race prospect but also brood-bitch down the line.
CHICKEN COOP – An Unraced June 2023 daughter of Ballyhimikin Jet and Ballymac Petsy, who is the dam of Irish Derby finalists Ballymac Finn and Maries Wedding. Still at the schooling stage, this lovely fawn bitch has done everything right so far but it is truly as a brood where her value lies.
SLIPALONG ACE – A July 2022 son of Grangeview Ten who boasts a 50% strike rate of 3 from 6 in Tralee including his most recent win of 28.50. Showing good early pace and staying power too, that win wasn’t a fluke as shown with his 28.72 and 28.85 wins prior.
DRUMCROW FUDGE – A home-bred October 2022 dog who at his first attempt over 4-bends won at Drumbo Park in a fast 28.82. Another with a 50% strike rate (4 from 8 this time), Fudge also benefits from being a wide runner meaning that any new owner will nearly be guaranteed this draw out in Trap 6.
GARIBALDI – An August 2022 daughter of Good News who in July set career-best figures in Kilkenny when recording 29.09 en route to a 4 length victory in A4 level. Just turned 2 years old this month, there is plenty left for this brindle bitch to show initially in graded company.
ROSSA COCO – An April 2022 bitch who has just gone 9 weeks out of season. Well-trialled before racing, Coco has shown what she is capable of with stunning performances such as 28.72 Limerick and 28.98 Thurles in particular. Touted by her current trainer as a stayer in the making, Coco falls into that “could be anything” category.
COFAS MAL – A July 2022 son of Malachi who experienced a tough start to life in company when tumbling in his first race. However he soon put that behind him with a 5 length victory just 2 weeks later at the same venue. Weighing in at 80lb, he looks like a step-up to 4-bends will only play to his further strengths.
RATHRONAN OSCAR – A July 2022 son of Burgess Bucks who is already a race-winner in Tralee having won a sprint in 18.04. Over 4-bends, Oscar has trialled at the same venue in 29.45 and he is sure to make into a versatile graded addition for most kennels.
SHELBYS GIRL – A December 2021 daughter of Droopys Sydney who won a Romford Open at the start of month in a fast 23.89. A prolific winner of 9 from 13, she currently resides at the kennels of the in-form Nathan Hunt.
ROBINSONS CLAN – A June 2022 bitch who is currently graded A4 at Oxford for trainer Tom Levers. Her career-best form of 27.29 suggests that she will be more the capable of landing a gamble or two along the way for new connections.
BALLINABOLA JACK – A May 2023 black son of Ballyhimkin Jet and Dolls Lady who has no mark on his card yet but has hugely impressed in private trials at Enniscorthy, clocking 29.22 on the wall in his last trial. An incredible run for one so young who off the back of the retirement of his older brother Ballinabola Ed looks like the next superstar to come through the Ballinabola kennels of Brendan Murphy. Sure to attract lots of attention being Monmore Puppy Derby eligible.
BARNORA HORSE – A September 2022 son of Pestana who is yet to get off the mark but has shown promise in his 5 runs at Clonmel with a best time so far of 29.43. Weighing a massive 82lb, perhaps with experience this dog will begin to show better.
