Ahead of Mondays Towcester Sales, Mark Pierrepont has once again been doing his research and has presented a preview of all 40 lots + reserves for potential purchasers to read.
In (lot) order:
(1) STRADBALLY MAC – Lightly raced December 2022 son of Malachi out of Bees Dream who is closely related to some top open and competition class performers including half brother Ballinakill Alf the 350 yard track record holder at Limerick who also reached the final of the Time Greyhound Nutrition Juvenile at Shelbourne Park in 2023. Bees is also a half sister to the sensational Jacktavern Bolt who after landing the Kasko Derby around Cork last year in the middle of a sensational 9 race unbeaten run then went on to reach the final of The Laurels at the same venue before reaching the Select Stakes Final at Waterford earlier this year. Mac is already a proven winner on Irish soil destroying decent rivals around Clonmel not too long ago by fully 7 lengths in 2889. Real nice sort and looks just the type to land his new connections a nice touch early on.
(2) MUSTANG RAZOR – Lightly raced October 2022 son of Magical Bale out of Mustang Kay Cee who is well proven in the breeding paddocks counting the likes of Mustang Jet amongst her illustrious offspring. Razor hasn’t had much luck in running thus far in Ireland and could benefit hugely from a fresh start here in the UK and if his last time out trial around Cork where he posted 2889 is any kind of guide he shouldn’t be too long in making his mark.
(3) REACH – Breeding doesn’t get much better than this for Reach is an unraced May 2023 daughter of Ballymac Bolger out of the competition and open class producing dam Dolce Vita who of course hails from the Toms Delight dam line. Antigua Sugar , Tullovin Vita , Wide Open to name just a few are top class performers out of Dolce Vita and the word is that this litter to Ballymac Bolger could very well be her best to date. Reared and schooled to perfection by Brendan Matthews and his team in Newry Reach has just the one official trial on her card to date when posting 2948 around Shelbourne Park but make absolutely no mistake she is far better than that run suggests. A top class prospect both the for the track in the short term but with her blood lines has every chance of making into a top brood in her own right in the years to come.
(4) ENERGY ZAPPED – Unraced April 2023 daughter of Signet Ace out of Getawaywithit who was a six bend open race winner on the track and is a full sister to the sensational 2021 Irish Champion Stakes Winner De Machine amongst many other star performers. Another who has been reared and schooled perfectly at the Newry set up of Brendan Matthews and being so young can only improve for many months to come yet.
(5) HYBRID HOFFA – Unraced July 2023 son of Coolavanny Hoffa out of Yahoo Ava who was a novice open winner on the track and hails from the famed Cabra Dancer dam line. So much improvement to come from a youngster who has been pleasing in his home work for quite some time.
(6) SOLO – Unraced June 2022 son of Iconic Rory out of Coolavanny Slip who is a proven producer of open class offspring and being a daughter of Coolavanny Angie is closely related to a whole host of top class performers. Solo ran out an 8 length winner of a Cork trial recently in 2970 and looks like making into a nice grader for new connections.
(7) MAGICAL JACOB – Unraced January 2023 son of Malachi out of Antigua Vows the super 4 and 6 bend open race star. This stunning blue greyhound counts the likes of Beatties Electra and Beatties Ginger who were both sold via the sales here in the UK previously and have gone on to perform at an extremely high level on the open racing scene here. Jacob has been showcasing huge promise for quite some time at home and a big on the day run is confidently expected.
(8) MAGICAL LILA – Unraced January 2023 daughter of Droopys Sydney out of Amazing Alice who of course reached the final of the 2021 Irish St Leger before landing Cesarewitch glory at Mullingar in 2022. Lila has had her first season and wouldn’t quite be primed for this sale so there is without any doubt much improvement to come from a lady who has every chance of a career at the top level of the sport here in the UK before holding every chance of a top class brood career in the future.
(9) GORDONS BENNETT – An unraced April 2023 member of the Signet Ace litter out of Getawaywithit who like his comrades has been reared and schooled by the Matthews team back home in Newry. It’s possible that this lad hasn’t quite shown the same kind of pace as some of his litter mates at this stage but there is so much to come from him and his lack of track experience thus far has been clear to see. The best won’t be seen in Bennett for quite some time yet.
(10) TEA AND TOAST – Litter sister to Energy Zapped and Gordons Bennett and again superbly done to this stage but with the foot note that there is surely plenty left in the locker for her new connections.
(11) DROOPYS SYMPHONY – Super unraced bitch pup prospect from the Droopys team who as a raw June 2023 whelp can only improve for a huge amount of time to come. Not a mark on the card of this daughter of Coolavanny Hoffa and Bo Shine Bullet but word from the team back home is that she’s been showcasing great promise both during the rearing process and in her schooling trials. Bullet was a real star of the UK staying scene just a few years ago and particularly so during 2021 where she won many big races and reached the finals of some of the leading staying events on the calendar including The Golden Jacket , The Regency and The George Ing St Leger and nobody could begrudge her that famous success in the final of the Kent St Leger at Crayford. This is Bo Shine Bullet’s maiden litter and if they have just a fraction of her ability they are sure to be lighting up the tracks soon.
(12) DROOPYS THEOREM – Unraced July 2023 son of Dromana Bucko out of Droopys Dance who has been reared and schooled to the usual high standards by the Droopys team. Dance has time and time again proven herself a producer of high class open and competition class performers responsible for the likes of Droopys Nice One who reached the final of the 2022 Irish Greyhound Derby and Droopys Request who is a winner of many opens both here in the UK and initially in Ireland. Super breeding and a real nice prospect who at this stage falls firmly into the ‘could be anything’ category.
(13) LINCOLN SONNET – Unraced May 2023 daughter of Coolavanny Hoffa out of Knockmant Jan who competed in top grade on the track and is a full sister to the sensational Skywalker Barry who amongst many big race achievements landed the finals of the Juvenile Dery 2020 , Select Stakes 2021 and the Gold Cup 2022. A quite stunning performer who’s bloodlines enabled a top class career over a lengthy period of time. Sonnet is lightly schooled thus far and should improve massively over the coming months but it’s maybe further down the line that her true potential as a brood will come to light.
(14) HOLLYHILL ANGEL – Unraced December 2022 daughter of Dromana Bucko out of Chopchop Aveline whose qualifying trials thus far have been moderate but she’s shown enough to suggest she will pay her way on the UK graded scene.
(15) MEMOIR – An absolutely outstanding bitch pup prospect and given her breeding that comes as absolutely no surprise at all. An Unraced December 2022 daughter of Ballymac Bolger out of the sensational competition class producing dam Unlock Unlock this young lady highlighted perfectly her potential when posting 2888 around Shelbourne Park in her first and so far only official trial on the card. Weighing in at 71lb weight she’s a strapping girl who looks all set to make her mark both on the track and as a brood later in life. A real live contender for any puppy competitions for the remainder of this year prior ahead of moving into all aged company in 2025. Another high class prospect from the Newry Maestro Brendan Matthews.
(16) VOLUNTARY – Another of the unraced pups from the Signet Ace litter out of Getawaywithit and even at this early stage this young lad has been showcasing that he’ll need every single yard of any four bend trip in the UK. Lots to come from likeable sort who won’t reach 2yo until April next year and given like his litter mates he’s been reared and schooled at the Townview Kennels set up of Brendan Matthews new connections will rest comfortably that he’s been given the very best start in life.
(17) TOMMYS BIRDY – Unraced July 2023 daughter of Bull Run Bolt out of Newinn Melody who was a top grade winner on the track and has thrown some nice types in her litters to date. Melody is of course a full sister to superstar of the sport and 2020 Irish Greyhound Derby Champion Newinn Taylor. Nice prospect both for the track and for the breeding paddocks.
(18) DA DURTY NELLY – (EX – DODECANESE) Unraced September 2022 daughter of Broadstrand Bono out of Foxhill Nancy who looks destined for a career in very good class with an open race career far from unlikely given that she posted 2887 around Cork in just her second ever official four bend trial. Nancy is a daughter of the fantastic Cruel Intentions meaning she is closely related to a whole host of open a competition class sorts including full sister Ballymac Intent multiple UK open race winner , Deadly Destroyer who reached the 2021 final of the Irish Champion Stakes and Deadly Tornado who landed many big race wins here in the UK.
(19) BEAMING DAKOTA – Unraced May 2023 daughter of Doolin Duke out of the fabulous brood bitch Beaming Smasher who has already produced the likes of Beepers Lariat 2023 Irish St Leger Finalist , High Trend 2023 Irish Laurels Champion and Salacres Smasher who was a leading fancy for the 2023 St Leger in the UK prior to injury. This line produces class over four bends and beyond and Dakota looks like making into a useful addition to her new connections team.
(20) HUGE MISTAKE – Unraced October 2022 bitch pup from the mating between Dorotas Wildcat and Love Queen who is of course a full sister to Jackslittlething who landed the final of the 2021 Irish Champion Stakes before subsequently reaching the final of the Irish Greyhound Derby in the same year. Trials have been moderate to date but a solid career at graded level beckons where she should more than pay her way.
(21) MAGICAL KIRSTY – Unraced January 2023 daughter of Droopys Sydney out of Amazing Alice the 2020 Irish St Leger Finalist and Cesarewitch Champion of 2022. An outstanding prospect who posted a sensational 2888 at Limerick recently in what was her first ever official 4 bend trial. Likely to prove to be one of the leading contenders for category one glory when the Bet365 Puppy Oaks gets underway at Towcester in December and with a winner’s prize of £10,000 it’s a competition that will be high up on the agenda of her new connections that much is for certain.
(22) MAGICAL RUBY – Just 2 races on the card of this January 2023 daughter of Droopys Sydney out of Amazing Alice and already a fantastic race winner on just the second of those starts when running away with a decent race at Limerick in 2883. Dam Amazing Alice of course reached the final of the Irish St Leger back in 2020 before going on to land the Cesarewitch at Mullingar just a year later. A top class bitch and she looks to have passed on plenty of that ability to her offspring. Reported to be a really straight forward professional bitch to work with Ruby looks like making into a lively contender for the category one Bet365 Puppy Oaks worth £10,000 to the winner at sales venue Towcester in December.
(23) DA CORNETTO – March 2023 son of Ballymac Bolger our of Raha Gogo whose trials thus far have been moderate but those can be totally dismissed as a small issue has since been put right and his private work has been at a level far in excess of that displayed publicly thus far. On the day sales trial is expected to demonstrate that perfectly and this product of the Brendan Matthews academy is fully expected to enjoy a career in good open class company here in the UK. Dam Raha Gogo is of course a full sister to the 2022 Irish Oaks Champion Raha Mofo.
(24) DUSTY CHIEF – Ready made performer for top grade / open class who has won 5 of his 14 career races to date with multiple times in the 2870s at Shelbourne Park coming from off the pace and a 2150 run around Dundalk also on the card. Despite having come off the pace in his successes to date make no mistake that this lads best performances come about from his early and middle pace and if he can just begin to get his trapping together he’s capable of finding many lengths improvement on the clock. A March 2022 son of Laughil Blake out of Love Island he is a full brother to Knockeen Dazzler who earlier this year emerged victorious in the prestigious Con & Annie Kirby Memorial at Limerick. Another super prospect for the UK scene from Brendan Matthews and the team.
(25) KERABELLEC DUBH – Unraced June 2023 bitch pup by Ballymac Bolger out of Saleen Grace who posted 2989 around Clonmel in her most recent four bend trial and looks likely to make into a solid grader who will more than pay her way for new connections at any track here in the UK.
(26) KERABELLEC DAISY – Really promising unraced sister to Dubh detailed above and looks a good bit ahead of her at this stage. A promising run of 2968 around Enniscorthy in when winning the first official trial of her life by 3 ½ lengths has since been followed up with a 5 length trial victory around Clonmel in 2954. Very much heading in the right direction and a likeable attitude to boot.
(27) SOBER GETAWAY – June 2022 son of Droopys Sydney out of Sober Pearl who has just the sole race on his card and that can be written off as early trouble left many of the field without any chance thereafter. Full brothers and sisters include sister Sober Flower who landed a heat of the puppy oaks at Shelbourne Park and has been competing in open and top grade company around Yarmouth and Suffolk Downs , Sober Secret who had already landed A1 around Shelbourne Park and Sober Sparkle who landed a Shelbourne Park A2 in good style before subsequently going on to record 2848 around the same venue in open class and has since graded straight into A1 company around Yarmouth. Likely that we’ve yet to see anything like the best of Getaway just yet.
(28) SALUBRIOUS IZZY – (EX – KILCOGAN DEE) Experienced March 2022 bitch by Droopys Sydney out of Razldazl Annie who is already a 3 time race winner on Irish soil including a fabulous early paced 2888 effort around Kilkenny not too long ago. Looks all set to land new connections an early touch early on in her UK career.
(29) RACENIGHT MIKEY – (EX – DUNQUIN MIKEY) Unraced April 2023 son of Ballymac Cashout out of Dunquin Anna who is a well proven producer of open and competition class performers counting the likes of Threesixfive the 2023 Irish Greyhound Derby Finalist and subsequent track record setter over Limerick’s 750 yard distance. Likely to improve both for time and eventually a step up in trip.
(30) FIGHT TO WIN – Very lightly raced March 2023 son of Malachi out of Avongate Whitney. One for the graded scene who will arrive with his new connections fit and ready to go.
(31) BLOODY FLAWLESS – Hugely pacey January 2023 son of Malachi out of Love Island whose lightly raced card to date does no justice at all to his massive untapped potential. No luck in running in 4 career races to date but make no mistake this is a top competition class prospect from the Brendan Matthews team whose best runs are very much ahead of him. Without doubt this is one for the major puppy events over the remainder of this year before a career in top class all aged open company awaits in 2025. Won’t be coming cheaply but class like this never does and a huge on the day sales run confidently anticipated.
(32) UNLOCK QUEEN – At November 2021 this lady isn’t one of the younger amongst the sales entries but she’s likely to be one of the most popular that is for certain. A daughter of Grangeview Ten out of the sensational Unlock Unlock this lady has some huge runs on the card over both four and six bends. Landed a 670 yard open at Dundalk not too long ago on Bar One Sprint Cup Final night in a time just 15 spots outside the near 20 year old track record of Prince Monalulu. One that many will be eager to add to their teams with plenty of opportunities available for an extremely versatile bitch who also has every chance of producing top class offspring of her own in the coming years.
(33) RACENIGHT JERRY – Unraced April 2023 son of Confident Rankin out of Ballinakill Clare who has been throwing some real nice types in her litters to date and on the track reached the final of the Irish Oaks back in 2018. (34) GRACE AND LAURA – Just the 2 races on the card of this September 2022 daughter of Jacon Tashadelek out of the maiden litter of Coolavanny Model. Her siblings are already competing and indeed winning races in top grade including Coolavanny Ken who has gone through the grades at Newcastle and no finds himself in A1 at the North East venue. Nice sort who got off the mark at just the second time of asking when overcoming a poor start to come through the field and win pulling away at Kilkenny in 2941. Really promising sort for both four bends and maybe even further.
(35) DARBYS HARLIE – Unraced April 2023 daughter of Ballymac Best out of New Exile who was a novice open winner around Youghal on career debut in an outstanding 2888. There was lots to like about this lady when she ran out a wide margin winner of her latest Shelbourne Park trial in 2962.
(36) KILGRANEY ALAINN – Unraced January 2023 daughter of Kilgraney Ace out of Kilgraney Vail who hails from the famed Lady Kilgraney dam line. Dam Vail is a proven producer of open class and put up a decent 2988 when winning her latest 4 bend trial around Clonmel by 2 lengths. A much sought after wide runner.
(37) PETIT SECRET – Unraced February 2023 son of Broadstrand Bono out of Miss Foley who has ran out a comfortable winner of both trials on his card to date with runs of 1861 at Youghal and 2989 Cork respectively. Nice type who should quickly progress through the UK graded system.
(38) MINDOFHISOWN – Full brother to Petit Secret and a little behind his sibling at this stage but should make into a more than solid grader.
(39) KANTURK FLASH – Just the 2 races on the card of this November 2022 son of Malachi out of Tell On Jessie and showcased huge determination and staying power to get up right on the line in the second of those recording 2948 at Cork and powering well clear to the pick up. Really nice type who should win plenty over any four bend trip in the UK but may well get further in time too.
(40) DUCLEAGH – Unraced April 2023 son of Ballymac Best out of Coolavanny Twist who has well proven herself as a producer of open and top grade offspring in her first two litters to Laughil Blake and Burgess Bucks respectively. Trials thus far have been moderate but open to any amount of improvement and on breeding alone looks well worth a chance for any graded kennel here in the UK.
