Greyhound Trader Doncaster Sale Preview

Greyhound Trader returns to Doncaster Stadium on Friday 21 August 2026 for what promises to be another hugely popular sales day at one of the leading tracks in the UK.

Gates will open to patrons from 9am, with the sales trials scheduled to begin at approximately 10am. As usual, visitors will be well looked after by the excellent catering team at Doncaster, with a quality breakfast available in the morning and food and drink served throughout the day.

As ever, this preview has been expertly compiled by Mark Pierrepont, taking a closer look at the pedigrees, form, family lines and background of the 50 main lots due to go under the hammer.

There is also an added incentive for buyers looking towards the future, with Doncaster set to stage a 36-runner Doncaster Puppy Derby later in the year. The competition gets underway on Saturday 17 October, with the semi-finals on Saturday 24 October and the final taking place a week later on Saturday 31 October.

The final will be worth an excellent £10,000 to the winner, with entries closing on Wednesday 14 October. Many of the youngsters going through the sale will be eligible for the competition and it represents excellent sponsorship for Doncaster. The track deserves supporting for putting on a competition of this value.

TRIAL 1 (450m)

Lot 3 — AWAY WITH YA

Good News – Three Canons (March 2025) — Dog

Pat Norris offers Away With Ya, a March 2025 son of Good News and Three Canons who has already shown a sizeable step forward in his schooling.

After recording 30.68 at Kilkenny in June, he improved significantly at Cork on August 7 when posting 29.09, a good effort which marks him down as an open-class prospect.

There is plenty of substance behind him too. Three Canons finished runner-up in the 2022 RPGTV Puppy Oaks at Shelbourne Park, while her maiden litter to Magical Bale produced a remarkable return with every one of her offspring reaching open class.

Lot 4 — EXCUSE THE MESS

Good News – Three Canons (March 2025) — Dog

Pat Norris follows with Away With Ya’s litter brother Excuse The Mess, who also made a significant improvement between his first and second recorded trials.

He moved from 30.66 at Kilkenny to 29.35 at Cork on August 7, a solid effort which suggests he is another youngster capable of developing into open-class company.

The pedigree certainly gives encouragement, with Three Canons having been runner-up in the 2022 RPGTV Puppy Oaks and her first litter to Magical Bale producing open-class performers right across the board.

TRIAL 2 (450m)

Lot 5 — BEEPERS ACE

Signet Ace – Pekay (May 2025) — Dog

Leonard O’Hanlon is represented by the very young Beepers Ace, a May 2025 son of Signet Ace and Pekay.

The dam was a strong runner in her own right and comes from the prolific competition-class brood Droopys Alice, giving this youngster a particularly interesting female line. With that background, staying may eventually prove to be his game.

His sole recorded mark came over 300 yards at Kilkenny on July 31, where he clocked 17.01 behind Beepers Katie.

Lot 6 — BEEPERS MAVERICK

King Sheeran – Beepers Mary (May 2025) — Dog

Leonard O’Hanlon follows with Beepers Maverick, another May 2025 youngster and a son of King Sheeran and Beepers Mary.

The dam was a top-grade and open-class winner, and although this is her maiden litter there is top-class quality close up in the pedigree. Her full brothers include Beepers Lariat, a finalist in the 2023 Irish St Leger, and High Trend, winner of the 2023 Irish Laurels.

Beepers Mary is herself a daughter of the super brood Beaming Smasher, a female line closely related to many of the sport’s stars of recent years and one noted for producing offspring with plenty of stamina.

Beepers Maverick recorded 17.02 over 300 yards at Kilkenny on July 31.

TRIAL 3 (450m)

Lot 7 — LONSOME BOATMAN

Signet Ace – Unmatched (April 2025) — Dog

Paul Matthews offers Lonsome Boatman, an April 2025 son of Signet Ace and Unmatched.

The dam enjoyed a high-class career, reaching the final of the 2023 Juvenile Derby and also the 2024 Cork Oaks, while her maiden litter to King Sheeran produced some nice strong-running open-class sorts.

Lonsome Boatman recorded 19.31 over 350 yards at Shelbourne Park on August 4 when finishing four lengths behind Rios Robin.

Lot 8 — TROUBLED WATERS

Droopys Flytline – Kilgarran Maid (April 2025) — Dog

Paul Matthews follows with Troubled Waters, an April 2025 son of Droopys Flytline and Kilgarran Maid.

Kilgarran Maid hails from the Badminton Maid dam line and has already shown herself capable of producing quality, with her litters to date yielding top-grade and open-class performers.

Troubled Waters posted 19.21 over 350 yards at Shelbourne Park on August 4, finishing five lengths behind Ace Of Aces.

TRIAL 4 (450m)

Reserve — GROUCHOS ALVIN

Grouchos Duke – Kitmins Betty (December 2024) — Dog

Ken O’Connell has kindly stepped in to provide 6 late reserves for Friday’s sale with his team spearheaded by the exciting unraced Grouchos Alvin.

The December 2024 son of Grouchos Duke has two qualifying marks to his name including a 29.07 trial at Limerick on 8th July.

A strapping 82lb dog, Alvin has been carefully brought along and is well regarded by his connections who believe he will be the ideal sort for the newly-advertised £10,000 Doncaster Puppy Derby.

Reserve — GROUCHOS JOE

Grouchos Duke – Ballybrack Lexi (April 2025) — Dog

Ken O’Connell follows with Grouchos Joke who similarly is showing the characteristics of making a nice genuine graded prospect for Doncaster or other venues.

TRIAL 5 (450m)

Lot 11 — ALRIGHT ALRIGHT

Hawkfield Ozark – Love Island (May 2025) — Bitch

The Newry Maestro Brendan Matthews introduces Alright Alright, a very nicely bred May 2025 daughter of Hawkfield Ozark and Love Island.

The Matthews team report that this lady has plenty of early pace and is open to plenty of improvement. She would not be regarded as the strongest of runners at this stage, so she may be one to start off in graded sprint company and see where she eventually ends up.

With such quality bloodlines behind her, she could also hold plenty of attraction further down the line as a brood bitch of the future. There is no previous form printed on her card.

Lot 12 — PICKOFTHEPADDOCK

Hawkfield Ozark – Love Island (May 2025) — Dog

The Newry Maestro follows with Pickofthepaddock, a litter brother to Alright Alright who is highly thought of by the Matthews team.

He too possesses plenty of early pace, but this looks a decent sort with open-class prospects. His only official mark is 19.51 over 350 yards at Shelbourne Park, but the team report that he has since clocked nearer 19.00 unofficially, some way clear of that figure.

He is expected to go well on the day and such is the regard in which he is held that, if he fails to make what the team believe he is worth, they will have no problem taking him back home to Newry.

TRIAL 6 (450m)

Lot 13 — CALS THUNDER

Jacob Tashadelek – Babe (October 2024) — Dog

Michael Calvert offers Cals Thunder, an October 2024 son of Jacob Tashadelek and Babe who remains very lightly raced, with just one competitive start to his name.

That sole race could hardly have gone much better, as he ran out a nine-and-a-quarter-length winner over 500 yards at Derry in 28.68 on August 3. His other efforts on the card are trials, including a 17.31 sprint success and a 29.00 effort over 500 yards.

There is also an interesting story behind the dam. Babe was sold to the UK for big money after a sensational 28.73 qualifying trial at Youghal, but was unfortunately injured in her first ever race in Britain, which came in open class at Swindon, and was subsequently retired for breeding.

Her maiden litter to Jacob Tashadelek produced top-grade performers, so there is already encouraging evidence from both the pedigree and Cals Thunder’s own solitary race.

Lot 14 — OAKFIELD LASS

Jacob Tashadelek – Babe (October 2024) — Bitch

Michael Calvert follows with Cals Thunder’s litter sister Oakfield Lass, a sought-after wide runner who has shown plenty of sprint pace.

She won an S5 at Lifford in April in 17.62 and later posted 17.02 when winning a Derry trial by six and a half lengths in June.

She naturally shares the same attractive Babe dam line, with the first Jacob Tashadelek litter having already produced top-grade performers.

TRIAL 7 (450m)

Lot 15 — EPIC LEGACY

Hawkfield Ozark – Epic Angel (March 2025) — Dog

The respected Kennedy team introduce Epic Legacy, a March 2025 son of Hawkfield Ozark and Epic Angel.

There is a very deliberate breeding angle here. Epic Angel is an unraced daughter of Billys Diva and was kept specifically for breeding, immediately linking this youngster to one of the strongest female lines represented in the sale.

With Epic Angel being a daughter of 2021 English Oaks winner Billys Diva, the bloodlines speak for themselves even though the dam never raced. Epic Legacy arrives without previous form printed on his card.

Lot 16 — GOOD FLEET

Signet Ace – Billys Diva (December 2024) — Dog

The respected Kennedy team follow with Good Fleet, a December 2024 son of Signet Ace and the outstanding Billys Diva.

Billys Diva was a superstar performer herself, most notably landing the 2021 English Oaks, and she has gone on to prove equally valuable in the breeding paddocks, producing open and competition-class performers.

Good Fleet therefore possesses one of the strongest proven female lines in the entire sale and is sure to attract pedigree students despite arriving without previous form on the card.

TRIAL 8 (450m)

Reserve — ZUBIMENDI

Grangeview Ten – Fashion Model (August 2024) — Bitch

Zubimendi brings recent Clonmel form, including a 29.18 second in A4 company on August 9 and a 29.12 effort in A3 company in July.

TRIAL 9 (450m)

Lot 19 — HI ASH

Dorotas Wildcat – Elles Peppa (January 2025) — Dog

Paul Matthews offers Hi Ash, a January 2025 son of Dorotas Wildcat and Elles Peppa who already has two winning Dundalk trials on his card.

He recorded 22.21 over 400 yards in April before stepping up to 525 yards and stopping the clock at 29.56 later that month.

This is the maiden litter out of Elles Peppa, but she is extremely well related and counts Bockos Jo Jo, winner of both the 2021 Golden Sprint and 2021 Northamptonshire Sprint, among her full brothers.

Lot 20 — INCARCERATED

Hawkfield Ozark – Meenagh Melody (March 2025) — Dog

Paul Matthews follows with Incarcerated, a March 2025 son of Hawkfield Ozark and Meenagh Melody.

The dam was a competition-class bitch on the track and has gone on to produce top-grade and open-class performers in her litters to date.

There is no previous form printed for Incarcerated, but another member of the same mating appears later as Lot 32 Even Stevens.

TRIAL 10 (450m)

Lot 21 — DROOPYS HANDY

Droopys Sydney – Droopys Edel (June 2025) — Bitch

Droopys Handy comes from the famed Droopys stud establishment and, as with so many youngsters emerging from that source, arrives at Doncaster without a mark on her card. Top-class rearing and schooling can be taken as assured.

There is real quality on the dam side too.Droopys Edel was an open-class winner on the track and finished third in the 2024 Sporting Press Irish Oaks Final.

Lot 22 — DROOPYS PODIUM

Dorotas Wildcat – Droopys Winifred (March 2025) — Dog

The famed Droopys operation follows with Droopys Podium, another youngster who arrives without any public mark on his card, but with the quality rearing and schooling associated with the establishment assured.

His dam Droopys Winifred is an unraced daughter of Ballymac Petsy, but she has already proved herself in the breeding paddocks by producing Outa The Clouds, winner of the 2025 Puppy Collar at Oxford.

That makes this a proven dam line already and adds considerably to the attraction of this March 2025 youngster.

TRIAL 11 (450m)

Lot 23 — NOTHING LESS

Newinn Taylor – Crafty Shivoo (February 2025) — Bitch

Pat Norris offers Nothing Less, a February 2025 daughter of Newinn Taylor and the outstanding Crafty Shivoo.

Crafty Shivoo enjoyed a magnificent racing career, winning both the Irish Oaks and the Empress Stakes in 2023 before adding the Irish Laurels in 2024.

This is her maiden litter, but reports surrounding the offspring are exciting, making Nothing Less one of the most interesting pedigree propositions in the sale. She comes to Doncaster without previous form printed.

Lot 24 — SCORCHING DESERT

Good Cody – Dysert Queen (October 2024) — Bitch

Pat Norris follows with Scorching Desert, who has already accumulated three 525-yard trials at Cork.

She recorded 30.14 and 30.28 in June and July before winning her latest trial by ten lengths on August 11 in 30.58.

She therefore arrives with considerably more schooling evidence on the card than many of the totally unexposed youngsters in this catalogue.

TRIAL 12 (450m)

Lot 25 — COMPLETE THEDEAL

Ballymac Bolger – Dolce Vita (May 2025) — Bitch

The Newry Maestro Brendan Matthews returns with Complete Thedeal, a nicely bred May 2025 daughter of Ballymac Bolger and Dolce Vita who is reported to possess good early pace.

She looks capable of developing into a decent graded performer, but as with so many of these very young pups coming from the Matthews team there should be a huge amount of improvement still to come.

The combination of early pace, youth and lovely breeding gives her plenty of appeal at this stage. There is no previous form printed on her card.

Lot 26 — ONLYFOOLSNHORSES

King Sheeran – Highjay Muzzy (May 2025) — Bitch

The Newry Maestro follows with Onlyfoolsnhorses, a May 2025 daughter of King Sheeran and Highjay Muzzy who is expected to develop into a high-class staying performer.

The pedigree gives every reason to expect stamina to be her forte. Highjay Muzzy landed the Night of Stars Marathon over 1025 yards at Shelbourne Park in both 2023 and 2024.

Onlyfoolsnhorses has so far been restricted to sprint trials, but the Matthews team report that she has been absolutely storming home to the pick-up. She could conceivably be a fair way behind during the early stages of her Doncaster trial, but this is definitely one to watch closely late on.

TRIAL 13 (450m)

Lot 27 — SKIDROW SOPHIE

Serene Rex – Fastnet Ace (June 2025) — Bitch

Richard Walsh offers Skidrow Sophie, a June 2025 daughter of Serene Rex and Fastnet Ace.

The dam competed in top-grade and open-class sprint company and has already been producing some high-grade sorts from her litters to date.

With that proven sprint background and so much time on her side, Skidrow Sophie is an interesting youngster despite arriving without previous form.

Lot 28 — SKIDROW CANDACE

Serene Rex – Fastnet Ace (June 2025) — Bitch

Richard Walsh follows with litter sister Skidrow Candace, another June 2025 youngster.

She shares the same proven Fastnet Ace female line, with the dam having raced at top-grade and open-class sprint level before producing high-grade offspring of her own.

Again there is no previous form printed, leaving plenty of development still ahead.

TRIAL 14 (450m)

Lot 29 — BALLYHIMIKIN AKI

Signet Ace – Good Poppy (January 2025) — Dog

Billy Dunne offers Ballyhimikin Aki, a January 2025 son of Signet Ace and Good Poppy.

Good Poppy was unraced and retained specifically for breeding, a decision which has already been justified through the quality of her offspring. She has produced some strong-running open-class sorts, including Burrows Odyssey, a finalist in the 2026 Time Irish Cesarewitch Open 600 Final.

There is no previous form printed for Ballyhimikin Aki.

Lot 30 — BALLYHIMIKIN ZAC

Signet Ace – Good Poppy (January 2025) — Dog

Billy Dunne follows with litter brother Ballyhimikin Zac, who shares the same proven female line.

Their dam Good Poppy was kept specifically with breeding in mind and has gone on to produce a number of strong-running open-class performers, including 2026 Time Irish Cesarewitch Open 600 finalist Burrows Odyssey.

The two Signet Ace brothers give buyers another same-litter pairing to compare at Doncaster.

TRIAL 15 (450m)

Lot 31 — ACE OF ACES

Signet Ace – Meenagh Miracle (December 2024) — Bitch

Paul Matthews offers Ace Of Aces and there can be little doubt that this is an open and competition-class prospect after posting 18.86 over 350 yards at Shelbourne Park in the sole trial on her card.

The dam Meenagh Miracle was a superstar on the track, memorably winning the Irish Cesarewitch in 2020, finishing runner-up in the 2020 Irish Derby Final, and also taking third in the Irish St Leger that same year.

She has gone on to produce open and competition-class performers with regularity since retiring.

With that calibre of pedigree behind her and an 18.86 Shelbourne mark already on the card, Ace Of Aces is without doubt a high-class prospect and one who should attract plenty of attention at Doncaster.

Lot 32 — EVEN STEVENS

Hawkfield Ozark – Meenagh Melody (March 2025) — Dog

Paul Matthews follows with Even Stevens, another March 2025 son of Hawkfield Ozark and Meenagh Melody.

The dam was a top-grade and open-class winner on the track and has carried that quality into her breeding career, producing similar top-grade and open-class sorts of her own since retiring.

He is from the same mating as Lot 20 Incarcerated and arrives without previous form printed.

TRIAL 16 (450m)

Reserve — GROUCHOS SIMON

Grouchos Duke – Kitmins Betty (December 2024) — Dog

Ken generous helping hand to the sales has meant that Grouchos Simon will have a quick turnaround from making his debut on Monday night at Enniscorthy to strutting his paws on Friday at Doncaster over 450m.

A winner of both his qualifying trials before his first race, including a 7-length victory in 29.05 at Limerick, things didn’t go as planned on debut but Simon will be hoping to make amends in front of the Doncaster crowd.

Reserve — GROUCHOS FLO

Grouchos Duke – Ballybrack Lexi (April 2025) — Bitch

Ken O’Connell also offers the first of 3 litter-mates from the Grouchos Duke and Ballybrack Lexi litter.

A bitch with no mark on her card but reported to be showing a nice attitude at home.

TRIAL 17 (450m)

Lot 35 — MUSTANG MARYKATE

Tuono Charlie – Mustang Kay Cee (April 2025) — Bitch

Sean Bourke offers Mustang Marykate, an April 2025 daughter of Tuono Charlie and Mustang Kay Cee who has shown useful consistency across two 525-yard trials.

She recorded 29.70 at Shelbourne Park on July 24 and exactly the same time at Clonmel a week later, when finishing just half a length behind Mustang Abigail.

Lot 36 — MUSTANG ABIGAIL

Tuono Charlie – Mustang Kay Cee (May 2025) — Bitch

Sean Bourke follows with Mustang Abigail, who edged Mustang Marykate by half a length in their Clonmel trial on July 31.

She stopped the clock at 29.67, a useful piece of 525-yard form for such a young May 2025 bitch.

TRIAL 18 (450m)

Reserve — GROUCHOS THEO

Grouchos Duke – Kitmins Betty (December 2024) — Dog

Completing the team for Ken is the litter-brother Grouchos Theo who also made his debut on Monday at Enniscorthy, in fact qualifying for the next round by finishing 3rd in 29.52.

This doesn’t tell the full story of Theo though whose very first qualifying trial was an extremely impressive 28.86 victory at Limerick which was then followed up by an 16.71 win again at Kilkenny over the sprint trip.

Could be one of the most sought after lots at Doncaster on Friday especially with the £10,000 Puppy Derby now announced.

Reserve — GROUCHOS ROGER

Grouchos Duke – Ballybrack Lexi (April 2025) — Dog

Ken adds to his team with Grouchos Roger who again looks a young prospect for the future with better guidance provided after their trial on the sales day.

TRIAL 19 (450m)

Lot 39 — FOUR STOUT

Drumantine – Pennys Lauren (January 2025) — Dog

The Newry Maestro Brendan Matthews offers one half of a stunning brother-and-sister pairing in Four Stout, a January 2025 son of Drumantine and Pennys Lauren.

The dam Pennys Lauren was an open-class performer on the track and has gone on to produce similar quality since retiring.

Four Stout and litter sister Small Fun had their first official trial at Dundalk on Friday evening, and the performance of this fellow could hardly have been more encouraging. Four Stout recorded a superb 21.42 over 400 yards, beating his littermate by five and a half lengths.

That is an SS0 time at the very first time of asking and marks Four Stout down as a super open-class prospect. The Matthews team already regarded him as their best representative in the sale and that Dundalk effort has done nothing to dampen their enthusiasm.

With so much improvement still to come from such an inexperienced youngster,Four Stout falls firmly into the “could be anything” category and looks sure to command plenty of attention at Doncaster.

Lot 40 — SMALL FUN

Drumantine – Pennys Lauren (January 2025) — Bitch

Brendan Matthews follows with Small Fun, the litter sister to Four Stout and the other half of this striking Drumantine–Pennys Lauren pairing.

She shares the same proven female line, with Pennys Lauren having performed at open-class level before going on to produce open-class quality of her own.

Small Fun also acquitted herself well in that first official 400-yard trial at Dundalk on Friday evening, finishing five and a half lengths behind her highly regarded brother. There should be plenty more to come as she gains experience.

As a well-bred daughter of Drumantine and Pennys Lauren, she also has the added attraction of brood potential further down the line, whatever she first goes on to achieve on the track.

TRIAL 20 (450m)

Lot 41 — EPIC MOLLY

Droopys Got It – Epic Desire (April 2025) — Bitch

The respected Kennedy team return with Epic Molly, an April 2025 daughter of Droopys Got It and Epic Desire.

This is breeding to die for. Epic Desire hails from Free From Desire and counts the high-class Epic Ace and Lennies Desire among her full brothers.

With that depth of pedigree behind an unraced April 2025 youngster, Epic Molly could be anything and will surely appeal strongly to those looking as much at the family as at the sales trial itself.

Lot 42 — EPIC VENUS

Good News – Good Woman (April 2025) — Bitch

The respected Kennedy team follow with Epic Venus, another April 2025 bitch, this time by Good News out of Good Woman.

The dam raced in sprint open company and has gone on to produce some nice winners since retiring, giving Epic Venus a sound proven foundation on the female side.

She arrives without previous form printed on her card.

Pestana – Droopys Alyssa (April 2025) — Dog

The famed Droopys team are represented by Droopys Erlybird, an April 2025 son of Pestana and Droopys Alyssa.

The dam was an open-class performer and has subsequently produced numerous top-class sorts of her own. Among them is the promising Droopys Crispy, who landed the Brownstown Tango and NTSC Open Unraced Bitch 525 Final in March this year.

Add in the quality rearing and schooling associated with the Droopys establishment and there is plenty to like about the background of this youngster, who arrives without previous form.

Lot 44 — DROOPYS ODRAN

Signet Ace – Antigua Hope (September 2024) — Dog

The Droopys team follow with Droopys Odran, a September 2024 son of Signet Ace and Antigua Hope.

The dam Antigua Hope was a super open-class stayer and has already produced some serious quality of her own, including Bower Sheeran, winner of the ARC Shootout.

That proven staying influence adds another strong angle to the pedigree, with the top-class preparation associated with the Droopys operation again assured.

TRIAL 22 (483m)

Lot 45 — BEAMING COCOA

Shima Shine – Beamingboomerang (May 2025) — Bitch

Corona Ryan offers Beaming Cocoa, a May 2025 daughter of Shima Shine and Beamingboomerang who has received an important late addition to her card.

She went to Limerick for a solo 525-yard trial on August 13 and posted an eye-catching 29.13.

That gives buyers a very recent piece of form to assess ahead of Doncaster.

Lot 46 — BEAMING LASAIR

Dorotas Wildcat – Hong Kong Katie (May 2025) — Bitch

Corona Ryan follows with Beaming Lasair, a May 2025 daughter of Dorotas Wildcat and Hong Kong Katie.

Lot 50 — BEAMING SHELBY

Tommy Shelby – Beaming Smasher (May 2025) — Bitch

Corona Ryan completes the main sale with Beaming Shelby, a very young May 2025 daughter of Tommy Shelby and Beaming Smasher.

She too has been to Limerick for a recent 525-yard solo, recording 29.90 on August 13.
