DARCEYS DUDE was an early market mover yesterday for this year’s Coral Puppy Cup at Romford and now joins Carol Weatherall’s Puppy Classic finalist Scooby Mustang at the head of the betting.
Purchased for £5100 from the International Greyhound Sales Monmore sales after a 28.79 trial, the Yarmouth raider scorched the London Road sand in a sensational 23.66sec in a trial last week and spearheads a talented team handled by Craig Morris for the £10,000 event which kicks off on Friday night.
The promising pair share favouritism at 11-4 with Entain brands Coral and Ladbrokes, with Michelle Brown’s Lincoln Impact next best in the betting for the 400m showpiece at 10-1.
Other sales graduates in the Category One showpiece include fellow Monmore sales purchase Goldstar Connie. Purchased for £4300 after a 28.67 trial, he runs for Maxine Locke and has shown plenty of promise to date including a 23.99 trial at Romford.
Also, it will be exciting to follow the Romford sales top lot Droopys Strike as he sets his sights on outright glory. Purchased for £10,400 by Ricky Holloway, the April 2025 son of Pestana has impressed with a recent 23.97 trial at the venue before finishing 2nd on debut.
Martyn Wiley sends two purchases from the same sales out too. First up is £4500 purchase Rosstemple Vivo who recorded a 24.39 trial on the day of the sales. He also has Not Now Alan (formerly Epic Kamikaze) having gone to £5000 for the son of Billys Diva after his 24.26 trial.
Last up is online auction purchase Ivy Hill Ariel for Dan Brabon. The £4750 purchase is having her first look at Romford tonight having run only at Central Park so far.
