It is now 11.30am on Sunday 12th April and there is just over 6 hours remaining in this weekend’s Greyhound Trader online auction. With a star-studded catalogue of 20 greyhounds, which we were delighted to present to the public, interest has understandably been very high.
Currently making the most money is Grouchos Gregor who was an impressive winner just last night at Shelbourne Park over 600y in a time which puts him into AA0. A flurry of bids came after this victory which has contributed to the current bid of £9600 from 6 different bidders in total. A little way off his reserve still, he looks an ideal greyhound for those searching for a last-minute genuine English Greyhound Derby contender whilst will be a fun greyhound to take all around the UK afterwards.
Not far off that same figure at £9200 currently is Shudawudacouda who has been the subject of the most individual bidders at a total of 10. The April 2024 whelp ran with serious credit making the Quarter-Finals of the Kirby at Limerick and again has the profile of an English Greyhound Derby candidate who will be suited by the step-up to 500m. Maybe a 5-figure bid could tempt his owners to sell?
The recent Future Champion Unraced winner at Enniscorthy Clona Chase is another great addition to the online auction with this competition having been the starting point for numerous greyhounds who have gone on to achieve stardom such as English Derby winner Thorn Falcon. The July 2024 has a near faultless record and has attracted a max bid of £6800 so far from 5 different bidders but like with the others he will have to make more to be sold today.
Grouchos Cossie is a young May 2024 greyhound who has winning form over 575y at SPK as well as running to DD0 level over 6-bends in Ireland despite not being two yet. His mother Ballymac Wisdom was a star-stayer in Ireland for Liam Dowling so it’d be no surprise for Cossie to follow in her footsteps with plenty of opportunities in the UK. His bid currently stands at £7100 but will surely be the subject of further interest from his previous 7 bidders having shown he doesn’t lack the pace for 4-bends either making the Quarter-Finals of the ongoing Kirby stake.
A messy race last night didn’t help Down Tothe Wire but you only have to look back 7 days to see his previous win at Limerick and the January 2024 will be a nice 500m dog going forward. Bidding for him stands at £3300 which is a similar price as to which Sunnyside Jayden is making at £2800. The July 2023 UK-based sprinter has an incredible record and at that price there will be no sale with the owner rightly saying he will win me that back after a few races alone! For those looking to add something different to their kennel (perhaps for a trainers-championship boost) then they could go a lot worse than looking at this son of Coolavanny Hoffa.
The Friday night SPK winner Droopys Weaver couldn’t have won at a better time and looks an exciting proposition for the future being just an August 2024 pup. Scoring over 550y in 29.88 is no mean feat and would place Weaver straight into competition standard in the UK with the Derby also being a viable option. His bidding rose over night to £5900 with 4 different bidders registering their interest and with a bit more movement hopefully we can see him sold come 6pm.
Zenia is one who has been the recipient of 7 individual bidders and this unraced September 2024 bitch clearly caught the eye of the public with her impressive 29.04 trial at Kilkenny. A quick market-mover on the Friday night, she raced to a bid that stands at £5150 now. She perhaps is one of the closest in the auction to her vendors’ valuation and with some more bids could be sold today.
The youngest greyhound in the catalogue is Theyreallwaiting who showed her obvious ability at SPK with a 19.05 winning trial for vendor Sean Conway. Just a January 2025 bitch, she’s too well regarded for him to sell at her current £2550 bid but it’d be worth testing his resolve with some more bids for this talented lady. She too has 7 different bidders so it’d be no surprise for a bidding war to play out yet.
The best-bred greyhound in the sale Glengar Sally has been subject to only minor interest thus far. Whilst not going to light up the track, her breeding alone makes her an investment and at the current £1000 price she is making it’d be more worthwhile for her vendor to breed her themselves.
Ballyregan Enid was a nice scorer at Limerick recently in 28.99 and this July 2024 pup perhaps deserves slightly more than her £1500 current bid. Likewise, Thorney View was a game winner in 29.09 at Clonmel and at the same age at Enid is making £1750.
For all those interest in any of the greyhounds in this weekend’s Greyhound Trader online auction remember that bidding ends at 6pm this evening. Those who are the highest bidder on each respective greyhound will have the best chance of being their newest owner.
