Russian Sammy is the latest of Greyhound Trader sold greyhounds to reach a Category 1 competition final by qualifying for the final of the Coral Regency at Hove.
Worth an amazing £20,000 to the winner due to the recent Premier Greyhound Racing initiative, Sammy has thrived off the step-up in trip to 6 bends and the 695m trip at Hove has played into his strengths.
Bought from the Towcester ‘Puppy Derby’ Sales in October last year for £5400 after a 30.05 run, Sammy has proved to be a shrewd purchase from the same connections that own the 2021 Greyhoundtrader.com Stakes Winner Getwiththetimes.
Whilst he will be an outsider from Trap 3, Sammy has every chance of running a big race with his early pace good enough to potentially lead the field.
Good luck Sammy!
Also competing on the night is Chelms Switch in the Sussex Cup Final over 515m.
A Category 1 final too, Chelms Switch is most certainly in a rich vein of form fresh off the back of his Derby Plate Win.
Drawn in Trap 3 too, Switch will have to have his trapping boots on to have a chance against a field full of quality but as proven before, he has every chance of turning up on the night. He won in the first round and was only denied just before the line in the Semi-Final so any crowding in behind will only be beneficial for this dog.
Good luck Switch!
