Antigua Sugar was a convincing winner of the 2022 running of the Greyhoundtrader.com Stakes which ran in connection with the English Greyhound Derby Semi-Finals and Final at Towcester Racecourse.
A 2/1 shot on the night, Sugar was initially slow away but showed some serious gears down the back straight and coming home as she picked up the race leader Deanridge Skippy. By winning the race not only did Sugar claim a fantastic crystal trophy thanks to Burridge Trophies, but she also claimed the generous £1500 prize money on offer to the winner.
In what was identical to the way last year’s winner Getwiththetimes ran (Slow away, wide, led fourth), Sugar won the race by 2 lengths in a good time of 29.59.
A member of the fast Ballymac Bolger x Dolce Vita litter, Sugar looks a future stayer and has continued the success of Nic Jeal’s Antigua operation who also owns last year’s Greyhound Trader Greyhound of the Year for 2021 in Antigua Lava.
Nathan Corden said ‘We’re delighted for Nic to win our race and it was great to have so many people join us on the podium to celebrate the win afterwards. Nic is a great supporter of the sport and deserves all the success that comes his way’.
Not only did Sugar earn her new owner £1500, but she also earnt her previous owner some money due to the Greyhound Trader Vendor Bonus initiative. As pictured, vendor Damian Matthews was presented with a £500 cash vendor bonus on the night in our way to say thank you with his continuous support of sales in the UK. Hopefully with the bonus it will continue to encourage vendors to sell the good quality greyhounds at our sales.
