With the top three lots alone netting over £22K, the first greyhound sale staged by Greyhound Trader went almost entirely to plan at Towcester on Wednesday.

Top lot at £9,800 was Appreciate It who clocked 30.09 (-20) on his first look at the 500m course. The 31.07 (575) Shelbourne winner was sold to Lee Harris and has joined Nathan Hunt at Romford.

The 712m trial winner News Headlines made £7,500 and was snapped up by Nottingham’s Peter Harnden. Damien Matthews also provided the third highest lot on the day, Getwiththetimes who made £5,800 and was bought by Dave Elcock.

Joint sales promoter James Corden said: “We were really pleased with the sale overall. 29 of the 34 lots (85%) were sold on the bench, at an average price of £2,628, reflecting the quality of the greyhound on view.

“There were a few things that we would do differently for our second sale. Firstly, we should be able to hold the auction inside next time. Obviously we couldn’t do that this time due to the Covid protocol.

“We would also like to have some form of commentary for the trials, keeping the patrons up to speed on what was going on. We also took some feedback on the length of time taken by the auction.”

Greyhound Trader’s next auction is scheduled for Saturday May 22 at Central Park.
