Mark Pierrepont’s Guide To The Sales Runners

Following the release of the Greyhound Trader catalogue for the ‘Pre-Derby’ Sale scheduled for 21st April at Towcester Racecourse, Mark Pierrepoint has taken a closer look at each of the lots put up for sale.

Unraced brother and sister pairing who have both been showing plenty of early dash in their qualifying trials around Shelbourne Park.  Damian Matthews believes the shorter four bend tracks of Romford and Crayford would play ideally to this pairings strengths where they should win plenty.  Anything up to 480m at the likes of Monmore would be fine but that would be the upper end of this pairings’ stamina reserves.  If you’re after early pace then these two are for you.

FAMILY BUSINESS: This breeding needs no introduction.  Volcano is renowned for producing top class stayers and this looks to be another.  Already a winner in DD0 class over the testing 750-yard trip at Shelbourne and has since finished second beaten just 2 lengths in a superb 41.95 to the exciting Coolmoore Buzz who was completing a hattrick in DD0 company.  This bitch is just turned 4 weeks through season and looks sure to resume a career in top class open race company over six and eight bends once back to peak form and fitness.  Will no doubt make an exciting brood prospect once her racing days are over.  A hugely exciting type who will no doubt attract plenty of attention.

NEWS HEADLINES: Breeding doesn’t get much better than this and this girl holds as much interest as a future brood as she does on what looks set to be an exciting open race career on the track.  Sired by the 2017 Irish Derby winner out of the prolific open race producing dam Toms Delight.  Came from way off the pace over 525 yards at Shelbourne when beaten just 1 1/2 lengths in 28.89 and pulled well clear to the pick-up.  An unlucky loser on six bend debut at Kilkenny over 725 yards when again finishing strongly from off the pace.  This lady is destined to have a top-class open race career over six bends.

CALM MIKEY : is an unraced youngster out of an unraced full sister to 2019 Scottish Derby Finalist Jaguar Jack.  Mikey has two marks on his card including a superb 2922 Clonmel in his first 525-yard run.  Mikey’s breeders have been so impressed with this litter during the rearing stage that they have already been back for a repeat mating to Laughil Blake.  A strapping 80lb greyhound he is sure to win plenty of races.

JUMEIRAH WODDY : A super puppy prospect who is a member of the debut litter of Jumeirah Charm who reached the English Oaks Final in 2018 and also competed in the prestigious Dundalk International in the same year.  Charm looks to have passed on her pace to her offspring as Woddy has already clocked 2948 Shelbourne when winning his last trial by fully 10 lengths.  Full brother Legal Thriller won last time out around Shelbourne in a fantastic 2858 whilst another brother Meenagh Major is now two from two having won last time out around Dundalk’s 400-yard trip in 2158.  A litter which will be winning plenty of high-class races and Woddy looks no exception.

SNOWBIRD: Big money purchase after winning the first two races of his life around Newbridge in 28.92 and 28.58 respectively.  Has been held back in his career since however he is now flying around Shelbourne Park and has won 2 out of his last 3 there in top grade.  A hugely talented greyhound who will be looking to make 2021 his year.

SPRINGINTHE STEP: A classically bred pup coming from the competition greyhound producing dam Toms Delight.  Her offspring need no introduction they read like a who’s who of greyhound racing superstars.  A six-length winner of his first trial around Shelbourne Park and beaten just 5 lengths in his second by De Machine who runs in the final of the prestigious Con & Annie Kirby Memorial at Limerick this coming Saturday where he will hold live chances.  Promising young dog.

FAME AND ACCLAIM :Extremely exciting unraced puppy prospect who is from the debut litter of Miss Sahara.  Miss Sahara herself won the first 3 races of her career when destroying her rivals in a Cork unraced stake including victory in the final by fully 10 lengths.  Just one mark on this youngster’s card beaten just 1 1/2 lengths at Kilkenny in 16.95.

NOTORIOUS KING: Just the one mark on this young greyhounds card a sprint trial at Kilkenny stopping the clock in 17.67.  If he possesses a fraction of the ability of Billys Diva he’s sure to be winning plenty.  Full sister Good Diva qualified through to the third round of the Puppy Oaks at Shelbourne on Saturday evening.

JEWEL RANK: Unraced son of 2017 Irish Derby Champion Good News who is producing some top-class greyhounds.  A winner of 3 of his 4 trials so far including 3.041 Clonmel.

PIERCESTOWN MARK: Unraced puppy prospect who won the only trial on his card in 2997 Waterford.  Just one of this litter has hit the track so far with brother Piercestown Ford winning on debut at Enniscorthy in 2908.

LIZS LEGACY: Hugely exciting unraced puppy prospect out of the well proven producer of top-class open class greyhounds Except Change.  Lizs Legacy himself has made a flawless start to life on the track winning his 3 trials to date by a combined 32 lengths including his last trial in 29.03 at Shelbourne Park.  Looks sure to attract plenty of interest and looks set to enjoy a hugely successful career.  Legacy is a half brother to Cushie Jet a winner of many top class open races making the finals of the Red Mills Champion Unraced and the Corn Cuchulainn.  A puppy prospect of the highest order.

AIRMOUNT ANGIE: Half-sister to the strong running Clever Airmount who reached the final of the Three Steps To Victory at Sheffield in 2020.  Yet to win in five career starts but run out a ready winner of her trial last time out at Youghal in 29.55.  Sure to improve and on breeding alone and with brood prospects she looks set to generate plenty of interest.  Dam Airmount Tess is a dual winner of the highly prestigious Corn Cuchulainn , Stayer Of The Year winner and 750yd Track Record Holder at Cork.

PULLANOTHERLEVER: Classically bred greyhound who has been posed some tough questions since posting 28.90 in just the second race of his career at Shelbourne.  Looks the type who will do well with a fresh start on UK soil.

GETWITHTHETIMES: Unraced half-sister to Antigua Fire and a full sister to one of the most talked about young greyhounds of the moment the powerful De Machine.  Breeding like this doesn’t come available very often and she looks sure to have a successful career on the track before potentially a highly successful brood career.

MUSTANG TIERNEY: Strong running young dog who could well benefit from a step up in trip.  Has had no luck in running in his races to date but has still put up some more than creditable performances in A3 company.

MUSTANG CEEJAY: Strong running young greyhound who gained the first win of his career when stepped up in trip to six bends for the first-time last time out.  Stopping the clock in 41.42 over 730 yards at Waterford.  Looks sure to win plenty of good class staying races here in the UK.

JUMEIRAH OSCAR: Just the two races to this young greyhound’s name and he won at the second time of asking in an impressive 29.13.  This despite missing the break badly however he soon showed superb pace to take control before halfway.  A young greyhound from the famous Mega Delight dam line who is destined to be competing in top class races.

JUMEIRAH JANE: Litter sister to Oscar and what a fantastic future brood prospect given that she comes from the Mega Delight dam line.  This line produces champion after champion.  Showed huge pace to win well on career debut in 29.31 around Galway despite missing the break.  A very pacey girl with a very bright future.

BABY BRAY: A winner of 2 of his first 3 career races to date when recording 29.53 and 29.50 around Enniscorthy respectively.  Sure to improve further and will see out every yard of any four-bend trip in the UK.

APPRECIATE IT: A hugely impressive type who has already won 3 races around Shelbourne Park in his career to date including a huge 6 1/2 length win over 575 yards stopping the clock in 31.07 just 13 spots off the fastest of the year so far.  Fully expected to put up a huge run at Towcester and will be a big player on the open racing scene in the UK.

LODGE TOWN: Showed huge pace to win on career debut back in November when recording 2916 around Shelbourne Park.  Has improved ever since and stopped the clock in 28.62 around Irelands HQ track on his last competitive start.  Has since backed that up with a 28.79 trial at Newbridge.  Destined for the open racing scene here in the UK and fully expected to put up a big run at Towcester.

URBAN PLAYBOY: Lightly raced type who is much better than his moderate card to date shows.  Will improve massively for regular racing.

BALLYMAC NOWAY: A stunning dark brindle greyhound weighing in at 84lb.  Excellent early pace and has a best time of 29.08 Enniscorthy on a lightly raced card that has seen him emerge victorious in 3 of his 9 career races to date.  Looks sure to be well suited by the UK racing scene.

CABRA CAESAR: Destined for the open racing scene here in the UK.  A winner the first 3 races of his life showing phenomenal early and middle pace whist seeing out the 525 yards at Shelbourne well.  Despite not flying the lids on the last of those starts he still managed to record a super 28.77.  Doesn’t reach 2yo until next month and with his whole career still ahead of him is sure to prove a very useful purchase for new connections.

RUFFIAN RAMBO: Hugely promising young pup who has won the first two four bend trials of his career.  Breaking the 30 second barrier in the first of those with a 29.94 effort at Kilkenny he followed that up by winning his second 525yrd trial with a 29.48 10 length victory at Shelbourne Park.  Given his young age it’s difficult to say quite how far he can go.

MYSTICAL APOLO: Breeding doesn’t get much better than this.  Apolo is out of a full sister to non-other than Magical Bale and obviously from a half-sister to a whole host of many sporting superstars including Nottingham track record holder Skywalker Logan , superstar marathon performer Roxholme Magic as well as many others.  Apolo showed huge pace in defeat when narrowly beaten despite a troubled run from behind on his sole start to date beaten just 2 lengths in 29.30 Limerick.  Apolo was very green in that run and can only improve massively in the months ahead.  Looks sure to suit the galloping tracks around the UK.

ONEOFOUROWN: Young bitch who is a winner of 1 of her 5 career starts to date coming in A5 company at Dundalk.  Is a younger half-sister to Meenagh Maverick who was sent off odds on favourite for the recent Springbok Hurdle Final at Central Park.

SLEEPING GIANT:Unraced pup from a dam who’s offspring usually make at least high grade and show plenty of early pace.  Has won 3 of his 4 trials to date with his last two being 30.14 Shelbourne and 30.11 Dundalk.

ERRILL MOON: Young pup who has won 1 of his 6 starts to date showing good early pace to run out a ready winner of Waterford A6 in 29.64.

DARK LOOK: Unraced dog with just the two trials on his card to date.  Dam is related to some nice types and has thrown one or two decent types herself.

RISER: Runs in good A2 company at Shelbourne Park a winner of 1 of his 8 starts to date when staying on well to win at HQ in 29.03 last month.

LUCK OFTHE IRISH: Probably trialled on too well for her own good when clocking 29.56 in her final qualifying trial at Shelbourne Park.  Struggled a little since but finally got her head in front when destroying A6 opposition by fully 6 lengths at Dundalk on Saturday night in 29.73.  Now that she’s got her head in front it would be no surprise at all to see her kick on through the grades.

KILGRANEY RACER: Stunning looking greyhound who though yet to win in 8 starts clearly has ability as highlighted by a 29.36 run on just his second career start.  Could turn out to be a good purchase for somebody who can unlock the key to success with this lad.

PARRYS EFFECT: Just the two races on this dog’s card to date staying on well in defeat on both occasions.  Sure to improve for regular racing here in the UK.

RAMPANT DELIGHT: Young coursing bred bitch who weighs in at 71lb.  Has a 30.18 trial on the card at Shelbourne
